HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison garnered eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined and the California softball team fell to JMU, 10-3, on Sunday as the Golden Bears completed play at the JMU Dukes Invitational Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park on the JMU campus.

The Bears fell to 13-11 on the year.

Cal got on the board first. Batting in the leadoff spot, Amani Bradley notched a single before stealing second. After getting to third on an error by the third baseman, Lauren Espalin sent her home on a sacrifice fly to put the Bears up, 1-0.

The Dukes got that run right back with a solo homer to start the bottom of the first, later adding a go-ahead run off of a Cal error in the second.

Bradley also made a great catch at the wall in center to save a run in the third inning.

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning, the Bears put two on the board to take a 3-2 lead. After Mikayla Coelho walked and stole second, Cameron Kondo sent her home with a double to tie the game. An RBI ground out off the bat of Nicole Hammoude plated Candace Yingling to give the Bears a 3-2 lead.

Makena Smith singled in the fifth to give her a 19-game hitting streak now, a team-best in 2020.

JMU regained the lead with two solo homers in the bottom of the fifth and added another run later in the inning to go up, 5-3. The Dukes padded their lead with five insurance runs in the sixth.

The Bears will head home for the Pac-12 and home opener against No. 11 Oregon on Friday, March 13, at 3 pm from Levine-Fricke Field.
