Cal freshman Roberto Valera has been named the MPSF Men's Water Polo Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced Monday.

Valera was instrumental in the No. 2 Bears' 15-11 victory over No. 12 Princeton on Wednesday, scoring six goals to lead Cal to a come-from-behind win. Four of Valera's six goals came after the Bears had fallen behind 10-9 late in the third quarter.

Valera is tied with UCLA's Chase Dodd for the most MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors this season. Cal freshman Max Casabella has captured the award twice this year.

The Bears host No. 5 Long Beach State on Saturday at Noon at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
