Makayla Daniels Scores 32 For Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The Cal women's basketball team erased an early first quarter deficit and led by as much as nine mid-way through the second period. Unfortunately, the Bears could not overcome the career night from Arkansas' guard Makayla Daniels who scored a game-high 32, leading the host team to an 84-67 win at Bud Walton Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Cal (6-2) had a solid afternoon overall. The Bears shot 41.0 percent from the field and were stellar from the line as usual. Arkansas (7-2) was just a little bit better, connecting on 44.4 percent of their attempts from the field. The Razorbacks got a bulk of their scoring from the line where they finished the day 29-for-32.

The Bears were led by freshman guard Jayda Curry who finished with 18, going 7-for-18 from the field. She was also 3-for-9 from beyond the arc and dished out three assists and had two steals. Joining Curry in double figures was Jazlen Green who scored a season-high 16 points. Green was 5-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-9 from deep. Cailyn Crocker finished the game with 12 points and five assists.

Arkansas had two in double figures. Daniels finished 11-for-15 from the field and was 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Sasha Goforth finished with 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first period, the Razorbacks took a 13-8 lead thanks to a 9-0 run. But the Bears defense erased the deficit, finishing period on a 10-2 run to go out front 18-15. Green had seven quick points and Dalayah Daniels had two of her career-high four blocks.

The turning point came in the middle of the second quarter. With the Bears holding on to a seven-point lead. Cal was whistled for a loose ball fall and a technical foul that gave the Razorbacks four free throws and the ball. The resulting six-point swing erased the Bears lead. Arkansas finished the half outscoring the Bears 19-5 to go into the locker leading 40-33.
