Bears Score Season-Best 390.600 in Loss to No. 1 Sooners
Cal Collects 11 Career Highs Against Oklahoma
BERKELEY – The No. 11 California men's gymnastics team posted a season-best score of 390.600 on Saturday afternoon against No. 1 Oklahoma in the final home meet of the 2021 season from Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears also recorded season-highs on both the still rings (63.700) and parallel bars (65.950).

"The guys did great today," head coach
J.T. Okada said. "We've been chasing a 390 all season, so to do it at our last home meet is perfect and I'm really proud of the team."

The Bears performed well on floor to open the meet, scoring a 66.100 behind a career-high from
Collin Cunane (13.250) and
Yu-Chen Lee tying his season best (14.000)Â and led the Sooners by nearly four points after the first rotation.

After collecting a 62.000 on pommel horse, Cal bounced back on rings with a team score of 63.700 (a season best). Both
Savion Perea (13.050) and reigning CGA Rookie of the Week
Noah Newfeld (13.150) registered career-highs in the process. Perea's improvement was by nearly a full point, surpassing his previous best of 12.150.Â

The Bears' 69.900 on the vault was their highest score of the day and their second-best score in that event this season. A season-high team score of 65.950 followed on parallel bars and every Bear collected either a career or season-best score.
Noah Newfeld led the Bears with his score of 13.950, which not only was a career best but also his top mark of 2021 in any event.Â

Cal finished the event with a 62.950 on the high bar, which ultimately put them over the 390 mark. Cal returns to action Saturday, March 27, when it faces No. 4 Stanford at 2pm PT.
