van Westreenen Wins Gold At U23 Worlds
Rising Junior Earns Victory In Double Sculls

Fien van Westreenen captured the gold medal for The Netherlands in the double sculls at the 2021 U23 World Championships on Sunday in Racice, Czech Republic.
Van Westreenen, a 2021 All-Pac-12 selection, teamed with partner Lisa Bruijnincx to hold off Germany and Greece in a tight final. It capped a dominant week of racing by the Dutch pair, which won its heat and semifinal race on its way to the title.
Van Westreenen and Bruijnincx finished the final in a time of 7:15.62, just ahead of Germany at 7:16. 38 and Greece at 7:16.51.
Van Westreenen also won the gold medal in the double sculls at the 2019 World Junior Championships. She also has a bronze medal in the women's four from the 2018 World Junior Championships.
Rising senior
Lucine Ahyi and France placed fifth in the A-final of the women's eight on Sunday while rising sophomore
Tabo Stekelenburg and The Netherlands placed third in the B-final of the women's four.
