No. 25 Cal Scores Season-High 4 Goals, Records 8th Shutout
The game got off to a relatively quiet start with a scoreless 23 minutes passing by until Cal's offense scored three times in just eight minutes to take the advantage.
Noelle Bond-Flasza was first to put points on the board for Cal when she scored in the 24th minute. Ayo Oke set up the pass from just outside the box and Bond-Flasza knocked in a header right past Colorado's keeper into the right side of the net. It was Bond-Flasza's first career goal.
Just five minutes later, Keely Roy took a penalty kick which was blocked by the Buff's goalkeeper, but Oke charged at the loose ball and passed it to a trailing Roy who tapped it into the middle of the unguarded net.
The dynamic duo of Roy and Oke struck again just three minutes later as Oke made a sideways pass at the edge of the box which Roy then launched into the back middle of the net. It was Roy's 11th goal of the season and Oke's 9th assist.
Cal entered the half with a 3-0 advantage and the team continued to dominate the match as the second half got underway. In the 63rd minute, Roy took a corner kick and delivered it right in front of the net causing a scramble for possession. Karlie Lema took control, though, and tapped the ball in to lift Cal to a 4-0 lead. It was Lema's fourth goal of the season.
Cal's defense held off Colorado for the entirety of the match with Anderson making a crucial save in the 68th minute off a shot to the bottom center of her goal.
22 Bears saw playing time in the match, with Courtney Boone being the only Cal player to stay out on the field for the whole 90 minutes. Cal took 25 shots which was five times the amount of Colorado. Lema and Roy led the team in attempts with their 7 and 6 shots logged, respectively.
After today's match, the Bears' overall record lifts to 10-4-4 with their conference record now at 5-3-1. Cal remains at home for Sunday's match against the Utah Utes. The game will take place at Edwards Stadium at 3 p.m. and will be aired on Pac-12 Mountain. Sunday's match will also include a Senior Day celebration.
