RIVERSIDE – California cross country faced a tough field of competitors at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships in Riverside on Friday morning. The women's team finished in 10th place and the men's team came in 9th place against their respective conference opponents. All 12 Pac-12 schools raced in the women's competition and nine schools raced in the men's run.

The action began with the women's 6,000-meter competition at the Agricultural Operations Course on the campus of UC Riverside. Claire Yerby was once again the top Cal-finisher, her second-straight meet being the first Golden Bear to cross the line. Yerby notched 69th-place overall and ran the course in 21:05.8.

Georgia McCorkle was the second Bear to finish the race with her personal best mark of 21:23.5 to take 74th place. Natalie Weiner took the No. 3 scoring slot for Cal, coming in 76th just behind McCorkle with a final time of 21:30.5.

The women continued Cal's pattern of personal record-breaking this season with four setting their personal best times. Emilie Barrett posted her best time of her career with her 21:50.5 finish, which was eight seconds quicker than her last time out. Lauren Calcagno also set a personal best with her 22:51.9 time. Lucy Hurt set her personal best of her collegiate career, and best in the Blue & Gold this season, with her 21:55.6 run.

On the men's side, Gabriel Abbes was the first Bear to cross the line in the 8,000-meter in 56th place with a time of 25:06.4. Landen Lee was the next Cal-finisher in 60th-place overall with his 25:13 run. Rowan FitzGerald, John Sesteaga and Garrett MacQuiddy followed shortly behind coming in 63rd, 64th and 66th, respectively.

The Bears now turn their focus to the NCAA West Regionals competition. The meet will take place on Friday, Nov. 11 in Seattle.
