The eligibility rules for Academic All-District honors were changed this year to strengthen the award program. All nominees who qualified based on a 3.50 GPA or higher and significant contribution on the pitch were named to the All-District First Team.
Â
This is the fourth-straight year Metayer has been named to the Academic All-District team. Metayer started in all 21 games for the Bears this season and scored a goal during the Bears' 3-0 victory over Penn on Sept. 18. She had the second-most minutes logged on the team this season with her 1,876 and has the most career minutes on recent record for any Cal field player with 7,809 total. She only trails former goalkeeper Emily Boyd for all-time most career minutes at Cal, with Boyd's record sitting at 7,860.
Â
Anderson and Collins earned Academic All-District honors for the third time. Anderson made 42 saves this season and sits in fifth-place on Cal's all-time career list with her 242. Anderson also climbed up Cal's all-time career shutouts list this season and is now in second-place with her 26 clean sheets after starting the season tied for fourth-place with 20 shutouts. Anderson additionally won Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 22.
Â
Collins earns her third all-district honor after her impressive 2022 campaign, which was headlined by her being named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and earning Pac-12 Defender of the Week honors two weeks in a row this season on Sept. 22 and 29. Collins led the team in minutes played this season with 1,900 over 21 games.
Â
Gifford earns her second Academic All-District honor this year while Roy and Cooper earn the first of their careers. Gifford was a key member of Cal's defense, involved in the team's nine shutouts this season. She played in 20 games and had an assist in the victory over Penn.
Â
Roy had a standout season, recently earning All-Pac-12 Second Team honors and being named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10. She led the team with 11 goals this season and also logged two assists. Additionally, Roy had a nearly perfect penalty kick conversion record in 2022, making 5-of-6 attempts.
Â
A key member of Cal's playing rotation, Cooper earns the first honor of her career following her best season yet as a Golden Bear. Cooper scored her first collegiate goal in the Bears' victory over Washington on Oct. 9 and played in 17 games for the Bears.
