Cal Hosts No. 7 Washington This Weekend
BERKELEY -- California softball returns to Berkeley for the first weekend of conference action, hosting No. 7 Washington for a three-game weekend series at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Bears and Huskies open the series with a 3 pm first pitch on Friday, March 18 on the Pac-12 Networks, followed by a 2:30 pm start on Saturday, March 19 on Pac-12 Bay Area before closing the three-game set at 2 pm on Sunday, March 20 on Pac-12 Bay Area. Amanda Freed and Jenna Becerra will be on the call for the Pac-12 Network for all three games of the series.

- California is off to its best start since the 2018 season at 18-8.
- The Bears have hit at least one home run in 19 of 26 games so far this year and are 15-4 in games with one or more long ball. Cal is 6-0 when hitting two or more deep shots in a game.
- Through the first five weeks of play, the Bears are hitting a combined .312 at the plate as a team and are fourth in the conference with 218 hits so far this season.
- Cal is 9-1 in games with 10 or more base hits as a team and is 15-3 in games with at least seven base knocks.
- Makena Smith is third in the Pac-12 Conference with a .491 batting average through the first five weeks of the season.
- Smith has recorded a hit in 18 of 20 games played this season, is tied for the team lead with seven home runs (seventh in Pac-12) and is second on the squad with 22 RBI.
- Tatum Anzaldo is a table setter in the leadoff spot, batting .418 with a conference-best 38 hits at the start of Pac-12 play. Anzaldo is second on the squad with 19 runs scored.
- Sona Halajian is swinging a hot bat to begin the season, tallying a .419 average, with a team-high 25 RBI and seven home runs. She also leads the Bears in the circle with a 10-2 record and the 10 wins is tied for the most in the Pac-12 this season.
- Halajian is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with 64 strikeouts in the circle, while Haylei Archer is 14th with 43 punchouts.
