BERKELEY – The Golden Bears will be well represented at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta this week. The Cal women's rowing team will have three boats competing at the six-day world-famous race taking place at Henley-on-Thames, England.

All racing will be streamed live, with results and information also available by following @HenleyRegatta on Twitter.

"We've spent the last week training out of the Cambridge University boathouse and are now in Henley getting ready to race on Thursday," said head coach Al Acosta. "We are very excited to be here at this historic regatta and to represent all our alums who never had the opportunity to race here. We're also looking forward to cheering on our Tokyo Olympic alums Kara Kohler '14 (USA 2X) and Rowan McKellar '17 (GB 8+)."

This is the first time the women's team has competed at the Henley Royal Regatta, a race that was first held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, except for the years affected by two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic. The historic event features a unique style of racing with only two lanes. The knockout-style races are held on a 2,112-meter course.

The Bears will be sending an eight, a quadruple scull, and a coxless pair to the regatta. Cal's schedule begins with the eight boat and the pair racing in the Island Challenge Cup and Hambleden Pairs Challenge Cup beginning Thursday.

Representing the Bears in the eights will be Kaitlyn Turner (cox), Angela Szabo, Issy Cassidy, Julia Hunt-Davis, Antonia Galland, Katie McDermott, Ella Berger, Sophie Ward, and Sammie Henriksen. Lucine Ahyi and Fien van Westreenen will be in the pairs.

On Friday, the quartet of Della Luke, Tabo Stekelenburg, Annabel Oertel, and Jane Perrignon will compete in the Princess Grace Cup Challenge.

Current Cal athletes Sophie Faliero and Carly Wright will be rowing with alum Charlotte Wesselmann in the Thames Rowing Club.
