Golden Bears Host Seven Of 11 Nonconference Games, Open Season On Nov. 7
BERKELEY – Seven home games at Haas Pavilion and a trip to Florida for the Emerald Coast Classic highlight California's 11-game 2022-23 men's basketball nonconference schedule, which was finalized Tuesday.
The Golden Bears open the 2022-23 campaign with two consecutive home contests against UC Davis on Nov. 7 and Kansas State four days later on Veterans Day (Nov. 11). A visit to La Jolla, California on Nov. 15 will pit Cal against UC San Diego in its first of two true nonconference road games.
Another pair of back-to-back home games will see Cal host Southern on Nov. 18 in an Emerald Coast Classic-affiliated contest and Texas State on Nov. 21. The Bears then travel to the Sunshine State for the second straight season to face TCU (6:30 p.m. PT, Nov. 25 on CBS Sports Network) and Clemson or Iowa (Nov. 26) in the eighth-annual Emerald Coast Classic at Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College.
After a two-game dip into Pac-12 Conference play on Nov. 30 vs. USC and Dec. 4 at Arizona, Cal will play three of its four remaining non-conference matchups in Berkeley against Eastern Washington (Dec. 7), Butler (Dec. 10) and UT Arlington (Dec. 21). The Bears will play their second true non-conference road game at Santa Clara on Dec. 18.
The Bears are 90-36 all-time against their 10 confirmed nonconference opponents – the Clemson/Iowa matchup on Nov. 26 will be determined based on the Emerald Coast Classic semifinals results – and own a winning record against six of those foes. Cal will face Texas State, Butler and UT Arlington for the first time. Cal is 20-14 overall in nonconference play and 17-3 in nonconference home games under head coach Mark Fox since the start of the 2019-20 season.
Tip-off times for all nonconference games and Cal's full Pac-12 slate will be announced at later dates.
