Bunting And Webb Also Affiliated With NFL Teams That Advance In Playoffs
Pro Bears Bryan Anger (Dallas) and Marvin Jones Jr. (Jacksonville) are on active rosters of NFL teams that were victorious in NFL Super Wild Card Weekend games and have moved on to the Divisional Round next Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 21-22.
Anger and the NFC's fifth-seeded Cowboys closed out the Super Wild Card round with a 31-14 victory at No. 4 NFC seed Tampa Bay on Monday, while Jones and the AFC's fourth-seeded Jaguars came up with the fifth-largest comeback victory in NFL Playoff history on Saturday when they rallied from a 27-0 deficit to defeat the visiting No. 5 AFC seed Los Angeles Chargers, 31-30. Anger punted four times for 189 yards (47.3 avg, 38.8 net), had one punt inside the 20 and a long of 52, while Jones had three receptions for 29 yards including a six-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter during the comeback.
Ian Bunting (Dallas injured reserve) and Davis Webb (New York Giants practice squad) are also affiliated with NFL teams that have advanced to the Divisional Round with the NFC's sixth-seeded Giants' winning on the road at No. 3 NFC seed Minnesota.
Jones and the Jaguars will open NFL Divisional Round action Saturday at No. 1 AFC seed Kansas City (3:30 pm CT/1:30 pm PT, NBC/Peacock/Universo), while Anger and the Cowboys will close four playoff Divisional Round playoff games Sunday at San Francisco (3:30 pm PT, FOX/FOX Deportes). The Giants travel to No. 1 NFC seed Philadelphia on Saturday (8:15 pm ET/5:15 pm PT, FOX/FOX Deportes).
Four Pro Bears – Keenan Allen (Los Angeles Chargers), Camryn Bynum (Minnesota), Jake Curhan (No. 7 NFC seed Seattle) and Patrick Mekari (No. 6 AFC seed Baltimore) – were on active rosters of teams eliminated on Super Wild Card Weekend. Allen had six receptions for 61 yards in the Chargers' loss at Jacksonville, while Bynum registered seven tackles in the Vikings' loss to the Giants. Curhan and Mekari participated in respective 41-23 and 24-17 defeats at No. 2 NFC seed San Francisco and No. 3 AFC seed Cincinnati but recorded no stats other than participation.
Four other Cal football affiliates – Austin Clark (No. 7 AFC seed Miami defensive line coach), Cameron Goode (Miami practice squad), Patrick Laird (Tampa Bay practice squad) and Richard Rodgers II (Los Angeles Chargers injured reserve) – also had their campaigns come to an end with the Dolphins falling 34-31 at Buffalo.
