Sano Wins MPSF Specialist Of The Week

Senior Leads Nation On Pommel Horse

SEATTLE – The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced on Tuesday that California men's gymnastics senior Noah Sano has earned its inaugural Specialist of the Week award, following a standout performance in which he recorded personal bests in three events at the Cal Benefit Cup.

Fresh off of competing at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in August, Sano posted a score of 13.950 on pommel horse in his season debut, which currently leads the nation. He followed that up with a 13.300 on rings and 13.950 on parallel bars to help Cal to its best-scoring season opener (394.950) in six years.

"I think that I'm physically more fit and prepared compared to last year because I trained for the U.S. Classic and the U.S. Championships during the summer," Sano said. "I'm also mentally more comfortable and stable because I'm finally able to train and compete in more than one event."

Sano and the Bears return to action on Jan. 28 at the Stanford Open.
