Bears Take Aim At 24th Consecutive NCAA Championships Appearance
BERKELEY - California men's gymnastics has finalized its 2024 schedule for its seventh season under head coach
J.T. Okada.
The Golden Bears will host the Cal Benefit Cup versus reigning national champion Stanford on Jan. 13, followed by a trip to the Stanford Open on Jan. 27 in hopes of qualifying at least one athlete to the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup for a third straight year. The next Saturday, Feb. 3, features a return to Stanford for a dual meet, followed by a trip to Oklahoma on Feb. 10 before the Bears close out the month's slate of team competition with a virtual meet against William & Mary on Feb. 18.
After a break for the Winter Cup (Feb. 22-26), Cal returns to action by welcoming Nebraska and Air Force to Haas Pavilion on March 3. The Bears' final regular-season contest will take place on March 16, a tri-meet with the Cardinal and the Sooners at Stanford. Finally, Cal will make an appearance at the MPSF Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, on April 6; following that, the Bears hope to join other qualifying teams at the NCAA Championships – held April 19-20 in Columbus, Ohio – for a 24th straight year.
The 2024 Bears are led by team captains
Noah Newfeld and
Noah Sano, the latter of whom returns for his fifth year along with teammates
Yu-Chen Lee and
Darren Wong. Cal will field an additional six seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen this year; in total, the group has 20 entries on the program's top-10 lists, including three school records.
