Cal Takes Trio Of Pac-12 Player Of The Week Honors
Uluave Picks Up Defensive Player And Freshman Honors; Driscoll Earns Offensive Line Recognition
BERKELEY – The California football team picked up three Pac-12 Player of the Week honors on Monday when the conference announced its' Week 11 performance awards, presented by Nextiva.
Cade Uluave was selected as both the Defensive and Freshman Player of Week for his performance in a 42-29 win over Washington State last Saturday, while
Brian Driscoll was named the Offensive Lineman of the Week.
The trio of weekly honors marks only the second time in school history that the Golden Bears have won three weekly league honors with the other coming during the first season the then-Pac-10 first awarded weekly recognition. Gale Gilbert and David Lewis shared the league's Offensive Player of the Week honors after a 33-33 tie with Arizona on Oct. 1, 1983, while Ron Rivera was the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Uluave, a candidate for freshman All-American and Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors, earned weekly recognition from the Pac-12 for the first time. Driscoll's Offensive Lineman of the Week selection was his second in 2023 following a Week 1 win pick after his performance during Cal's 58-21 win at North Texas.
Cal has earned five Pac-12 Player of the Week selections in 2023 with the other being
Lachlan Wilson as Special Teams Player of the Week for his showing in a Week 5 win over Arizona State.
Cal (4-6, 2-5 Pac-12) next visits Stanford (3-7, 2-6) in the  Big Game this Saturday at Stanford Stadium (3:30 p.m. PST, Pac-12 Network).

Brian Driscoll, OL, 6-4, 320, R-Jr., 5th Season At Cal (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines HS)
– Became the first Cal offensive lineman in recorded history dating back to 1992 (according to Stats, Inc.) to record a touchdown when he recovered a fumble at the goal line and fell into the end zone in the second quarter against Washington State
– Has helped pave the way for running back
Jaydn Ott, who rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries against Washington State and is the first Cal player to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a single season since Patrick Laird in 2017
– Has blocked for a rushing offense that ranks fourth in the Pac-12 and 25th nationally with an average of 189.0 yards per game that is Cal's best since 2005
– Has started each of Cal's 10 games in 2023 as well as a team-high-tying 22 in a row overall

Cade Uluave, ILB, 6-1, 230, Fr., 1st Collegiate Season (South Jordan, UT/Mountain Ridge HS)
– Secured a 42-39 victory over Washington State with an interception at Cal's 3-yard line on the game's final play and added two fumble recoveries, including one that he also stripped and returned 51 yards for a touchdown and the game's first score, as well as another on the Cougars' 19-yard line that led to a Cal touchdown
– Added nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss (-4 yards) against the Cougars
– Second among all Pac-12 freshmen with 45 stops on the season, including at least nine in each of the last four contests, while adding a team-high 4.5 tackles for loss (-37 yards), 1.0 sack (-23 yards), one interception, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries that he has returned 51 yards and two forced fumbles
– Has played in all 10 games and started the last three – the first starts of his career
