BERKELEY – Travers Family Head Football Coach
Justin Wilcox announced on National Signing Day that Cal has added three members to its 2023 recruiting class to bring the total to 24 after the signings Wednesday of LS
David Bird (Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor HS), WR
Marquis Montgomery (Tacoma, WA/Snow College/Independence Community College/Kapolei HS) and OL
Martin Tine (Houston, TX/East Los Angeles College/Alief Elsik HS/Legacy School of Sports Science).
"We continue to improve our roster with these additions to our 2023 recruiting class," Wilcox said. "The process of building and maintaining your roster is an ongoing task, and we are always looking to bring players into Cal that will help us win football games."
Bird is listed as the nation's No. 1 available long snapper in the 2023 recruiting class by Kohl's while earning first-team All-American honors from the organization, as well as a first-team 6A Desert Valley All-Region selection as a 2022 senior.
Montgomery, who had offers from many of the nation's top football programs, ranks as the nation's No. 3 junior college wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class by both 247Sports Composite and On3 Consensus. He had 23 receptions for 329 yards and five touchdowns in a run-heavy offense over the last two seasons at Snow College for teams that combined for a 15-3 overall mark.
Tine spent three campaigns on the roster at East Los Angeles College and played the last two seasons as a two-way player on the offensive and defensive lines with his 2022 sophomore squad participating in the Patriotic Bowl and his 2021 freshman team reaching the Beach Bowl. He ranks as high as the No. 6 junior college offensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports.
