KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Cal women's swimming & diving team produced a pair of consolation finalists on the second day of the 2023 NCAA Championships on Thursday, with senior Mia Motekaitis and sophomore Leah Polonsky each earning All-American honorable mention in the process.

Cal also had a strong finish to the evening finals, as its 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Davidson, Isabelle Stadden, Emily Gantriis and McKenna Stone posted a season-best time of 1:27.63 to finish in 10th place after being seeded 14th.

Motekaitis registered the best NCAA individual finish of her career, placing 14th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.90. She entered the event seeded 40th but won her heat during morning prelims and qualified 15th to earn a spot in the B-final.

Polonsky finished 16th in the 200 individual medley, the second straight year she has scored points for the Bears in that event. Polonsky won the Pac-12 championship in the 200 IM last month.

After two days of the 2023 NCAA Championships, the Bears stand in eighth place with 74 points. Cal has finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships for 25 consecutive years.

The Bears are back in the pool Friday for a busy third day of the NCAA Championships. Cal has nine individual entries as well as the 400 medley relay.
