Bears Wrap Up 2023 NCAA Championships In 11th Place

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Isabelle Stadden recorded the fourth top-5 finish of her career at the NCAA Championships on Saturday night, taking third place in the 200-yard backstroke as the Cal women's swimming & diving team finished in 11^th place in the team standings.

Stadden completed the race in 1:49.38, just ten one-hundredths of a second out of second place in an ultra-competitive final. Stadden also finished third in the event as a freshman in 2021 while placing fourth last season.

Earlier in the meet, Stadden took sixth in the 100 backstroke, marking her third top-10 finish in the event during her career.

Senior Rachel Klinker qualified for the B-final in the 200 butterfly and placed 11^th for the Golden Bears.

Cal's 400 freestyle relay team of Emma Davidson, Ayla Spitz, McKenna Stone and Stadden took 12^th with a time of 3:14.02, moving up two spots from their seed in the process.

Overall during the 2023 NCAA Championships, the Bears recorded four top-10 finishes and two top-5 results.

The meet wrapped up a successful season for the Bears, who also placed third at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships and were ranked No. 13 in the final CSCAA poll of the regular season. Cal recorded three conference titles at the Pac-12 Championships, with sophomore Leah Polonsky winning the 200 and 400 individual medleys and the Bears' 200 medley relay team also taking the crown.
