Bears Return To Texas For Frisco Classic
Three-Day Tournament Will Feature Cal, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Mississippi State
BERKELEY – The California baseball team returns to Texas for the second time this year when it participates in the Frisco Classic this Friday through Sunday. The Golden Bears will take on tournament foes Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State.Â
All three contests will be streamed on D1Baseball.com. Handling the play-by-play duties this week will be a rotation of Chris Mycoskie and Mike Ferrin with Mike Rooney and Mike Hardge handling the analyst duties.Â

The Bears begin the tournament taking on Oklahoma on Friday at 11 a.m. PT. On Saturday Cal will square off against Ohio State at 3 p.m. PT before wrapping up the tournament by taking on Mississippi State on Sunday at 9 a.m. PTÂ

This is the second time the Bears have participated in this tournament, the last coming in 2018. Cal went 1-2 that year with an 8-2 win over Baylor and losses to Louisiana Tech (10-6) and Texas A&M (9-5).Â

The Bears enter this weekend rested after having Sunday's game against UConn and Tuesday's contest against UC Davis rained out. Cal enters this weekend with a 6-1 record overall and 3-1 away from Stu Gordon Stadium.Â

Starting Fast: The Bears' 6-1 record through seven games is tied for the best start under sixth-year head coach Mike Neu. A win on Friday would see the Bears off to their best start through eight games since the 1999 season. Cal's best through 10 games during that stretch is 8-1-1, which happened in 2008.Â

National Numbers: The Bears currently rank 15th in the nation in team ERA at 2.75, which also ranks second in the Pac-12. Cal also ranks No. 15 in the nation withan average of 1.14 double plays per game.Â

Through two starts this season, Ian May has been tremendous against the leadoff batter – opponents are 0-for-14 when starting off an inning against the sophomore.

Cal's bullpen has been fantastic through seven contests. The Bears' relievers have inherited eight runners and have allowed only one to score.Â

Friday marks the 13th time the Bears and Buckeyes have faced each other. All-time, Cal owns a 7-5 record in the series.Â

Saturday is the sixth meeting between the Sooners and Bears. Oklahoma has a 4-1 advantage in the series.Â
