.45 40-Yard Dash Highlights Top-Five Finishes Among Safeties In All Measurable Tests
INDIANAPOLIS – Former California safety
Daniel Scott wrapped up an impressive performance at the 2023 NFL Combine on Saturday with 22 bench press reps that ranked fourth among all safeties during the annual event at Lucas Oil Stadium. In his first day of measurable testing on Friday, Scott clocked a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash to rank second among 19 safeties and recorded the top time in his position group for the 3-cone drill (6.75) and 20-yard shuttle (4.17). In addition, Scott was in the top five for safeties in the broad jump (10' 8", 4th), vertical jump (39.50", 5th) and 10-yard split (1.55, T-5th).
"I thought I did well," said Scott, who also went through an onfield football skills workout on Friday. "I got to run fast and show my athleticism in front of teams, which was the plan. I wish I had a few drills back to redo and improve, but that's just how I think. I'm leaving Indy content with the numbers I put up. I was happy to be able to compete with the best out there and create relationships that will last forever."
Â
Scott answered a few more questions after his performance.
Â
What do you think this performance did for you in terms of your status for the NFL Draft?
"I'm hoping it helped my stock because that's why we go and compete in Indy. Obviously, you can never guess what teams and their decision-makers will do, but for the things I could control, I think it helped."
Â
What was your general experience at the combine like?
"It was very surreal. As time goes by, the more it hits you that you got to partake in the combine and what a unique group you are a part of. Not everyone gets to experience the combine. I've been so blessed with another opportunity to showcase my talent."
Â
How did you take advantage of the opportunity you were given?
"That's all anyone can do is take advantage of the opportunities given to them. I knew it was going to be a huge opportunity to help myself. I just tried to control what I could control and let the rest unfold how it may."
Â
How has your Cal experience helped you for pursuing a professional football career?
"Not only did Cal prepare me for the football-specific drills but also the testing. Without the position meetings, 'Football 101' presentations, lifts, runs, conditioning, etc., I wouldn't be where I am now. It took a village to get me here, and Cal was a large factor in that."
Â
Top front office executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams are in attendance at the combine to evaluate the nation's top football prospects eligible for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft to take place April 27-29 in Kansas City. NFL Network and
NFL.com are providing extensive coverage of the event that ends Monday.
