Valentina Ivanov won twice against the Tigers on Tuesday in Stockton.
STOCKTON – The 30th-ranked California women's tennis team won in commanding fashion for the fourth time in five matches in a 7-0 victory over Pacific on Tuesday.
Valentina Ivanov clinched the win, and
Jessica Alsola won her 16th straight singles match.
Â
Cal improved to 9-7 after the nonconference result, while Pacific fell to 6-9.
Â
The Bears were dominant in doubles, starting with Ivanov and
Haley Giavara, who shut out Megan Carmichael and Tomi Main, 6-0, on court two.
Hannah Viller Moeller and
Berta Passola Folch clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph over Danielle Zamora and Alexis Sam on court three.
Â
Cal did not drop a set in singles. Giavara claimed the first singles win, besting Main, 6-0, 6-1, on court two. Passola Folch followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Zamora on court six, before Ivanov beat Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle, 7-5, 6-0, to secure the overall match. Alsola, ranked 48th in this week's ITA rankings, later closed out the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Klara Kosan on court one.
Â
"It was nice to get back outdoors and play during a lovely sunny day in Stockton," said Cal head coach
Amanda Augustus, whose team previously beat No. 43 Oregon, 6-1, indoors on April 9. "We appreciate Pacific hosting us. It was good to get another match in. Overall as a team we were ready to go."
Â
Cal has been ready to go for much of its recent stretch of competitions. Along with the Pacific and Oregon results, Cal won 6-1 over No. 26 Arizona State on March 31 and won 7-0 over No. 44 Arizona on April 1. The only setback over the last five matches was a 4-3 loss to No. 62 Loyola Marymount on April 2.
Â
"This was a good opportunity for us to get better," Augustus said, "and we're excited for our next match in a few days."
Â
The Bears return to Pac-12 Conference play for the remainder of the regular season. On Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT, they host Washington State and Cal Athletics Hall of Famer Raquel Atawo, the head coach of WSU, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Cal hosts 19th-ranked Washington on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Bears' regular-season home finale. Additionally, Cal will host its Senior Day ceremony prior to the match with the Huskies.
