BERKELEY – The No. 1 California men's rowing team will head on the road to take on No. 3 Washington at the Montlake Cut in Seattle on Saturday. The annual race between the two programs dates back to 1903 and is one of the oldest rivalries in rowing. Cal will be sending its top four boats along with a freshman eight.

The matchup between two of the top teams in men's collegiate rowing will be for the Schoch Cup, given to the winner of the varsity eight race each year. The cup is named after Delos Schoch of Washington's class of 1936. Schoch lettered three years (1934-36) as a Husky rower.

This year's dual also marks Cal men's rowing's Title IX celebration in honor of the 50th anniversary of the historic ruling that promoted gender equity in education and sports.

All races can be viewed on Washington's Live Stream here.

Last year, the Huskies came down to the Redwood Shores for the annual matchup and the Bears and came away victorious, taking four of five races - including the varsity eight - to return the Schoch Cup to Cal for the first time since 2017. Cal's second and third varsity eights along with the varsity four also came away with wins, while the freshman eight was edged out by just two seconds.

The Bears are coming off a highly successful Pac-12 Invitational and Ebright Invitational two weeks ago, where they went a combined 18-0 across both events, highlighted by the varsity eight defeating No. 4 Syracuse, No. 6 Northeastern and No. 11 Boston University.
