Four Bears Earned Outstanding Status
BERKELEY – The Cal men's water polo team placed 15 student-athletes on the Fall 2022 ACWPC All-Academic Team.
Last year, 14 Golden Bears earned the honor, which tied the program's highest total since 2009. This time around, Cal placed four student-athletes in the "outstanding" category, twice as many as in 2022.
Sophomores Georgios Chalkias and Brady Hoover and freshmen Will Kelly and Albert Ponferrada all earned the distinction after finishing the fall semester with a cumulative GPA between 3.71 and 4.00. Six Bears received "superior" recognition (3.41-3.70) and five others garnered "excellent" status (3.20-3.40).
Juniors Sam Untretcht and Jake Stone, sophomores Jordi Gascon, Blake Hoover and Jake Howerton, and freshman Nik Mirkovic all earned "superior" status. Senior Ian Minsterman, juniors Garrett Dunn, Warren Loth and Nikolaos Papanikolaou and sophomore Roberto Valera were all selected to the "excellent" category.
It was the third career ACWPC All-Academic honor Stone, Papanikolaou, Utrecht, Dunn and Loth. Valera, Dunn, Minsterman, Howerton, Gascon, Chalkias and Blake and Brady Hoover all made the list for the second time.
