Two Bears Named To List Of 20

BERKELEY – Two members of the No. 5 California women's water polo team have been named to the 2023 Cutino Award Watch List, USA Water Polo announced Thursday.

In the midst of their stellar senior campaigns, goalkeeper Isabel Williams and utility Cecily Turner represented the Golden Bears on the watch list, which recognizes 20 of the best women's water polo players in the country. The Cutino Award – which will be awarded this June – is the top individual honor a player can receive.

Williams, a 2022 First Team All-American, has shined all year in the heart of the Bear defense. She currently leads the MPSF in saves (209) and ranks second in steals (35). With 10 saves in Cal's last win over No. 12 Pacific, she became the sixth Bear ever to surpass the 500 career save milestone.

Turner began the year as one of the top returning players to watch in the MPSF and hasn't disappointed, already having set career-highs in goals (34), assists (17) and points (51). She also ranks second in the conference with nine field blocks and has five hat tricks this season, another career best.

The Cutino Award is named after Pete Cutino, the legendary coach who led the Cal men's water polo program to eight national titles and 519 victories during a 26-year career. The awards ceremony will be held at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on June 3.
