Cal Makes Short Trip To South Bay To Face Santa Clara

BERKELEY – The California baseball team returns to the Bay Area on Tuesday for a nonconference contest at Santa Clara. First pitch for the Bears and Broncos is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT. Tuesday's game will be streamed on the WCC Network and fans can also follow along via livestats at Stabroadcast.com.
 
Cal (18-22) is coming off a tough weekend in Pittsburgh where it was swept by the Panthers. Prior to that series, the Bears were 12-3 in nonconference play. Santa Clara (23-15) is currently riding a five-game winning streak after sweeping Pepperdine in Malibu last weekend.

  • The Bears enter this week with an overall record of 18-22; they are 7-11 on the road.
  • Tuesday's game will be the fifth of a season-long eight-game road trip. The road trip will conclude with a three-game series at UCLA this weekend.
  • Kade Kretzschmar wrapped up his impressive month by collecting three hits on Sunday. It was his 12th multi-hit game of the month and sixth three-hit game of the season.
  • Nathan Manning stayed hot over the weekend, hitting .308 against the Panthers while driving in three. Since his return from injury 11 games ago, he is hitting .390 (16-for-41) with 10 runs scored and 10 runs driven in.
  • Tuesday starter Andres Galan has been the stopper for the Bears this season. The Bears are 4-2 in his starts, with three of those wins coming after a loss. On the year he is 3-1 with a 4.18 ERA. His last time out he tossed 4.1 innings at No. 8 Stanford on Apr. 25.
  • After going 1-for-5 in the series-finale at Pittsburgh, Caleb Lomavita extended his reached base safely streak to 13 games. It is his second streak of 10 or more games reaching safely and is the fourth- longest such streak of the year by any Golden Bear.
  • Rodney Green Jr. is still one of the nation's top stolen base leaders. His 25 steals currently ranks 22nd in the nation and second in the Pac-12. His 0.68 steals per game ranks 13th in the nation and is tops in the conference.
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday will be the 261st meeting between the Bears and Broncos. Cal owns a 164-96 record in the series that dates back to 1897. Under Mike Neu, the Bears are 0-2 against the Broncos. Last time out, Santa Clara defeated the Bears 9-6 at Stu Gordon Stadium on March 8, 2022.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears return to Pac-12 play this weekend when they travel to Los Angeles to take on UCLA for a three-game series starting Friday evening at 6 p.m. PT at Jackie Robinson Stadium. All three games against the Bruins will be streamed on the UCLA Live Stream.
