No. 7 Cal All Set For Pac-12 Championships
Bears Head To Dexter Lake In Lowell, Oregon
BERKELEY – The No. 7 California women's rowing team will take on the rest of the conference at the Pac-12 Championships at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Oregon, on Sunday. The women's novice eight will kick things off at 9 a.m. PDT and all races will air on
Pac-12 Network and the
Pac-12 Now app. Live results will be posted
here. The Golden Bears will race their top three varsity eights, novice eight and varsity four crews.
The Bears have a lot of momentum going into the Sunday, as they are coming off an excellent showing at the Pac-12 Challenge in which they nearly had a clean sweep with the first and second varsity eights earning wins. Additionally, the first and second varsity fours went undefeated against No. 12 SMU and Iowa at Redwood Shores.
"The team has made some good improvements since our last racing weekend," Cal head coach
Al Acosta said. "We've more or less been in set lineups for the better part of a week. So things are coming together. We definitely feel like we're on a nice trajectory. With exams going on right now, we're trying to find small windows for boats to get out on the water for 'study breaks' and the team has been doing a great job bringing focus and energy to these short practices. We're looking forward to getting up to Dexter Lake and going faster than we've gone all year."
Cal's last Pac-12 title came in 2018 and the program has brought home 12 Pac-12 Championships since the event started in 1987.
Scoring System
Teams are given points for where they place in the first, second and third varsity eight races along with the varsity four race using the below scoring structure. The finish in the varsity eight race is used as a tiebreaker in case teams are tied in total points.
