Two Bears Named To Academic All-District Team

CSC Recognizes Cal Pitchers Christian Becerra, Chris Stamos

BERKELEY – Two California student-athletes were named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday.

Golden Bear pitchers Christian Becerra and Christ Stamos were both recognized for their work in the classroom. For the full list of All-District® honorees, click here.

Becerra, an undeclared sophomore, boasts a GPA of 3.52. He has appeared in 16 games, making nine starts for the Bears. The native of Studio City, Calif., has put up career highs in innings pitched, strikeouts, and wins. In 45.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 46 batters - tops on the team.

Stamos, a media studies major with a 3.61 GPA, has appeared in 18 games including two starts. His 28 strikeouts are a career high. He served as the opener in each of his last two appearances, pitching a combined three innings and striking out six over that stretch.

Cal has had at least two baseball student-athletes earn spots on the Academic All-District® team in each of the past four years.

Becerra, Stamos, and their fellow All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
