BERKELEY – Jason Glover, a coach with over 35 years of experience at every level among the collegiate and professional ranks, has joined the California women's basketball program as an assistant coach, Cal head coach Charmin Smith announced Wednesday.
 
"We're thrilled to have Jason join the program as he brings a wealth of experience from every level of basketball," Smith said. "He's worked with some of the top players in men's and women's basketball and will be an integral part of the continued growth of this program."
 
Among Glover's responsibilities will be post-player development, defensive game planning and scheduling. He comes to Cal after having served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at San Diego State for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. In his second year at SDSU, the Aztecs won their most games since the 2012-13 season and in his first season the program set a school record for fewest turnovers per game.
 
"Cal is a special university with a rich history," Glover said. "Charmin has a great vision for the program and I'm thrilled and thankful to be a part of it.  I look forward to working with this coaching staff and the players as we all work towards winning on the court and developing our players for future success."
 
Prior to SDSU, Glover spent the 2017-2021 seasons as an associate head coach at Southern California and the 2016-17 season in the same role at New Mexico State, with the Aggies going 24-7 overall and 14-0 in the Western Athletic Conference and reaching the NCAA Tournament.
 
Glover also had stints at the professional level, when in 2012-13 he served as the associate head coach of the NBA G-League Reno Big Horns in the winter and had the same role with the WNBA's Tulsa Shock that summer. During his time with the Shock, he coached WNBA All-Stars Liz Cambage, Skyler Diggins, Glory Johnson, Courtney Paris and Candice Wiggins.
 
Glover's professional experience also includes a stint with the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2010-11 season as a player development and assistant coach, working with Kurt Rambis, Reggie Theus and Bill Laimbeer and helping develop young stars such as Michael Beasley and Kevin Love.
 
Prior to the Timberwolves, he served as director of basketball operations and assistant coach with the Bighorns from 2008-10.
 
Glover's Division I coaching career began on the men's side at Dixie State, where he was an assistant coach from 1990-93 before taking the top assistant job with Nevada's men's program from 1993-2000.
 
In addition to his coaching experience, from 2000-13, Glover served as the executive director of the Nevada Basketball Academy, a non-profit in Reno where he helped 30 student-athletes obtain college scholarships during his tenure.
 
Glover received his bachelor's degree from Grand Canyon University in physical education with a minor in biology.
