Senior Outfielder Adds Two More Player Of The Week Awards

BERKELEY – Senior right fielder Kade Kretzschmar has been named the Dick Howser Trophy Player of the Month by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
 
Kretzschmar had a blistering month of April in which he slashed .462/.488/.885. He pounded out 16 extra-base hits including seven doubles, a triple and eight home runs. He scored 19 runs and drove in 23. In 19 games played in April, he had a Pac-12 Conference-leading 12 multi-hit games - including seven games with three or more hits. Against lefties, he hit .474, against righties he hit .458. With runners on base, he hit .425 (17-for-40).   
 
The Carlsbad, California, native entered the month of April hitting .232, and he is now hitting .331 (51-for-14) with nine doubles a triple and 11 home runs. This is the first Player of the Month honor for Kretzschmar, who was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and the NCBWA Player of the Week on April 17. He became the first Cal player to earn a national weekly award since Andrew Vaughn was named the Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on April 23, 2018.
 
The Golden Bears return to action on Friday when they travel to Los Angeles for a three-game series at UCLA. Game one of the series starts at 6 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
