Borrelli, Liu In Top 25 Individually
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Graduate student Annika Borrelli shot a 1-under 71 in round two of the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional on Tuesday to help the California women's golf team move up one spot in the team standings.
The Golden Bears (302-299 – 601) improved three strokes from their day one score and head into Wednesday's final round in ninth place.
Borrelli's round was the best the Bears have had so far in the tournament, giving her four par or better scores in her last five rounds of action. Borrelli (77-71 – 148) is now tied with teammate Adora Liu (73-75 – 148) for 21st individually.
Starting the day on hole 10, Borrelli was even through her first nine holes. On tricky hole No. 4, she needed three fewer shots than on the previous day, putting away her second birdie. Borrelli closed out the last nine holes strong with another birdie on her final attempt of the day.
Liu remains in the top 25 after beginning her day with a birdie on hole No. 10 and carding a 3-over 75 by the end of the round. Junior Mika Jin (77-75 – 152) also shot a 75, improving upon her day one score alongside Borrelli.
Freshman Olivia Lee (75-78 – 153) shot a 6-over 78 and is now tied for 45th place.
Michigan State remains in first place in the team standings with a slim three-shot lead over Northwestern.
