BERKELEY – Josh Huger, who spent the past four seasons helping develop Tennessee's men's and women's programs into national powerhouses, has been named Associate Head Coach of California's men's and women's swimming & diving teams, Director of Swimming & Diving David Durden announced Tuesday.
 
Huger was an assistant coach for the Vols before being promoted to associate head coach last month. Tennessee's women's program finished in the top 10 nationally every year Huger was on staff, and last season the men's team finished seventh in the country – its best finish since 2016.
 
Huger also helped coach Tennessee's Jordan Crooks to the 2023 NCAA championship in the 50-yard freestyle. Crooks was the SEC Swimmer of the Year last season.
 
Overall at Tennessee, Huger helped train 51 All-Americans and coached swimmers to 13 conference championships.
 
Huger has also served on staff at Virginia Tech, William & Mary and Indiana-Pennsylvania.
 
"I am thrilled to have Josh, his wife Katie and son Finley join the Cal Aquatics family," Durden said. "I have been following Josh's career over the last five years and it has been impressive the impact he has made at both Virginia Tech and Tennessee. From our conversations over the last couple of weeks, Josh has felt like the perfect fit for our program. I am excited to share the deck with him and have him a part of our staff as we head into the 2024 Olympic Trials and the 2024 Olympic Games."
 
While at Virginia Tech, Huger helped Hokies swimmers capture eight individual ACC championships while producing 16 All-Americans. The Hokies also had three top-25 NCAA finishes during his four years on staff.
 
Huger earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from Indiana-Pennsylvania.
