The Road To Paris
The 2024 Summer Olympics Commence One Year From Today
One year from today, California Golden Bears figure to take center stage once again at the Summer Olympics.
The opening ceremonies for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled for next July 26, and Cal should have its usual hefty representation by current and former student-athletes. Golden Bears have amassed 223 Olympic medals all-time, which is the fourth-most of any college in history. Cal athletes secured 16 medals at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Three Golden Bears have already reserved their spot in Paris – discus thrower Mykolas Alekna (Lithuania), hammer thrower
Camryn Rogers (Canada) and swimmer Lucas Henveaux (Belgium). Cal had a whopping contingent of 50 athletes in Tokyo – the third-most of any school – to go along with eight coaches.Â
Golden Bears figure to once again have a huge presence in the pool. Cal has 16 swimmers and eight water polo players at the World Aquatics Championships currently taking place in Fukuoka, Japan. Of the 16 medals Golden Bears garnered in Tokyo, 14 came from swimming, water polo and rowing.
Of the 223 all-time medals captured by Golden Bears, 93 have come over the past five Summer Games.
