BERKELEY – The California men's soccer team continues Pac-12 play when the Golden Bears play at 17th-ranked San Diego State on Thursday and at UCLA on Sunday.
 
Thursday's game will air on the Aztec Digital Network, while the Pac-12 Networks will broadcast Sunday's match.

Bears Open Pac-12 Slate With Oregon State Tie
Cal took a 2-0 lead over Oregon State – on a Juan Martinez penalty kick and an Arik Duncan goal – in the teams' Pac-12 opener Sept. 14 in Berkeley. But the Beavers scored twice, and the teams settled for a 2-2 draw.
 
On Sept. 17 at Edwards Stadium, Cal had another close conference match on its hands against Washington. But the Huskies prevailed, 1-0.
 
Scouting Cal

• In 2022, Cal beat SDSU, 2-0, in Berkeley and tied San Diego State, 2-2, in San Diego
• Cal played a pair of one-goal games vs. UCLA last season, falling to the Bruins, 2-1, at home and losing 1-0 on the road
• Senior midfielder Evan Davila leads Cal in points (7), goals (3) and game-winning goals (2)
• Davila was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week after netting the winner and getting an assist in a 3-0 blanking of FDU on Sept. 1
• Senior midfielder Juan Martinez ranks second in points (6) and goals (2, tied with defender Kevin Carmichael, forward Arik Duncan and midfielder Rohan McEligot) and is tied with forward Nonso Adimabua for the team high in assists (2 each)
• Carmichael was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week after scoring the equalizer in a 1-1 tie with then-No. 18 Wake Forest on Aug. 27
• Goalkeeper Connor Lambe has a 1.11 goals-against average in seven starts
• Goalie Marco Brougher, who played a full 90 minutes against Washington, has a 1.00 GAA
• Freshman goalie Zack Andoh has a 1.45 GAA in a little more than 62 minutes of action
• Defender/midfielder Wyatt Meyer was chosen to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team
• Leonard Griffin – who won the 2002 NCAA championship as a UCLA player in 2002 – is in his second season as head coach of the Golden Bears
• A former professional player who was drafted No. 11 overall by the Chicago Fire in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, Griffin made MLS stops in Portland, in Columbus and in Los Angeles with the Galaxy

• Thursday's game is the Pac-12 opener for SDSU
• San Diego State leads the NCAA in numerous categories, including scoring offense (3.43 goals per game), assists per game (4.14), points per game (11.00) and goal differential (24)
• SDSU, which has not allowed a goal so far this season, also leads the NCAA in team GAA (0.00), save percentage (1.00) and shutout percentage (1.00),
• In its last two games, San Diego State defeated Life Pacific, 12-0, on Sept. 18 and Utah Tech, 3-0, on Sept. 21
• Forward Austin Brummett leads SDSU in goals (6) and points (15); he's tied with forward Rommee Jaridly for their team lead in game-winning goals (2 each)
• Midfielder Alexander Levengood paces SDSU in assists (6)
• Goalkeeper Logan Erb has compiled a GAA of 0.00 in six games
• Ryan Hopkins is in his fourth season as SDSU's head coach

Scouting UCLA

• UCLA hosts Stanford on Thursday in the Bruins' conference opener
• In their last two games, the Bruins lost to Cal State Fullerton, 4-1, on Sept. 17 and beat UC Irvine, 4-0, on Sept. 23
• Forward Jack Sarkos leads UCLA in goals (6) and points (12); he scored the gamewinner in a 4-0 shutout of Rutgers on Sept. 9
• Forward Jose Contell and defender Tommy Silva are tied for the UCLA lead in assists (3 each)
• Goalie Sam Joseph has a 1.40 GAA in five starts
• Ryan Jorden is in his fifth season as UCLA's head coach
