THOUSAND OAKS – The California men's tennis team captured three of four doubles matches and won three times in singles on Saturday, as the Sherwood Collegiate Cup began at the Sherwood Country Club.
 
All of the Golden Bears' victories came at USC's expense. In doubles, Derrick Chen and Ryder Jackson posted a 6-3 result over Trojans Samuel Rubell and Lodewijk Westrate, Carl Emil Overbeck and Mikey Wright defeated Peter Makk and Volodymyr Iakubenko, 6-1, and Alex Chang and Timofey Stepanov bested Karl Lee and Niroop Vallabhaneni, 6-2.
 
In singles, Chang beat Westrate, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3, Jackson – a former Trojan – topped Karl Lee, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, and Overbeck defeated Makk, 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-1.
 
The Sherwood Collegiate Cup continues Saturday.
