Cal Trio To Play In Divisional Round Of NFL Playoffs

Alualu, Goff, Mekari On Active Rosters Of Remaining Postseason Teams

Cal has three former players – Tyson Alaulu, Jared Goff and Patrick Mekari – on active rosters of NFL teams that will play in the NFL Playoffs Divisional Round this weekend.

Detroit's Alualu and Goff will host Tampa Bay in a Divisional Round contest on Sunday (Noon PT) after the duo helped the NFC third-seed Lions to their first playoff win since 1992 on Super Wild Card Weekend with a 24-23 home victory over Goff's former team and the No. 6 NFC seed Los Angeles Rams. Goff completed 22-of-27 passes for 277 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions for a 121.8 rating to become only the fifth quarterback in NFL history to produce a postseason game with 275-plus passing yards, a completion percentage of 80.0% or better and a passer rating of 120.0 or more, joining Josh Allen, Petyon Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Warner in the elite group. Alualu took 22 snaps on the Lions' defensive line the day after being called up from the team's practice squad and contributed one tackle.

Mekari and AFC top-seed Baltimore had a bye on Super Wild Card Weekend and will open its' playoff action by hosting the AFC's fourth-seed Houston on Saturday (1:30 p.m. PT).

Former Cal players Patrick Laird (Tampa Bay practice squad), Nikko Remigio (Kansas City injured reserve) and Byron Storer (Green Bay assistant special teams coach) are also affiliated with teams remaining in the playoffs.
