BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team and the Cameron Institute will provide a full day of programming to celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day surrounding the Golden Bears' game against USC on Feb. 4 at Haas Pavilion, which tips off at 12 p.m. PT. At the conclusion of the game, the team in partnership with the Cal Athletics Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging and Justice Office, will host a WNBA panel and prior to the game the Cameron Institute will host Go Girls, Go Bears, Go Play – an interactive session for kids to engage with various Cal female varsity teams and community partners on campus. This event is encouraging and inclusive of all gender identities, ages 6-13 years old.

The postgame panel will be moderated by ESPN's Ros Gold-Onwude and feature current WNBA players Layshia Clarendon (Cal/LA Sparks), Haley Jones (Stanford/Atlanta Dream), former WNBA player and current Cal women's basketball head coach Charmin Smith and former WNBA player and current Senior Vice President of Player Development for the NBA Jamila Wideman (LA Sparks/NBA). The panel will discuss several topics related to the WNBA including a team coming to the Bay Area, the future of the league and evolution of the game. Anyone attending the game is welcome to stay for the panel, which will take place on the court inside Haas Pavilion.

"As a former WNBA player, I think this an exciting time for the league and the Bay Area," Smith said. "I'm looking forward to welcoming Ros, Layshia, Haley and Jamila back to the Bay as they all have roots here. They have unique perspectives to share and I can't wait to hear their thoughts on the state of the league and where we go from here."

Before the game, the Cameron Institute in partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance, OUSD Expanded Learning and Oakland Athletic League is inviting all East Bay families and students ages 6-13 to its inaugural Go Girls, Go Bears, Go Play Field Day. The event takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium on the UC Berkeley campus and admission is free. Kids will be able to try different sports activity booths, interact with Cal student-athletes, teams and community organizations, and receive free giveaways and raffle prizes.
