Bears Edged At Arizona State 76-71

Ioanna Krimili Has Season-High Six 3-Pointers, Six Assists

TEMPE, Ariz. – The California women's basketball team fell down by as many as 15 points in the first half but battled back in the second to get within two points multiple times late in the fourth quarter, but was unable to come away with the win at Arizona State Sunday afternoon at Desert Financial Arena. Turnovers were the difference in the game as the Golden Bears (13-8, 3-6 Pac-12) had 21, which turned into 21 points for the Sun Devils (10-11, 2-7).
 
Cal was led by Ioanna Krimili, who had season highs of six 3-pointers and six assists. She finished with 20 points for the fifth time this season and now has 23 career games with at least five made threes – tied for second among all active players in the country. The Bears hit double-digit 3-pointers (12) for the fourth straight game and ninth time this season. Michelle Onyiah nearly had a double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mia Mastrov played a season-high 27 minutes and finished with 12 points.
 
Arizona State jumped out to a 13-8 lead early in the first quarter as the Bears turned it over five times in the first five minutes, which the Sun Devils converted into six points. A 8-0 Sun Devils' run extended their lead to 17-8 before McKayla Williams hit a triple at the 2:20 mark. Onyiah was able to make a layup at the buzzer to cut the deficit to four points heading into the second quarter.
 
The Sun Devils hit back-to-back triples to open the second quarter and fuel a 8-0 run before Mastrov hit a 3-pointer at the 7:16 mark. Arizona State extended its lead to 15 points in the quarter before the Bears hit four straight field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers from Krimili, to cut the deficit to six points at the 3:17 mark. The Sun Devils responded with a 8-0 run to go up 43-29 with a minute to go in the quarter before Onyiah hit a layup to cut their lead to 12 points going into the half.
 
Cal opened with two quick buckets in the first minute to start the third quarter and cut the deficit to eight points. Leilani McIntosh hit a 3-pointer to get the Bears within nine points with five minutes to go in the quarter. Krimili hit her sixth triple of the game to cut the Sun Devil's lead to four points with under a minute to go in the quarter.
 
The Bears opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to get within one point. The Sun Devils hit a 3-pointer to take a six-point lead before Onyiah and McIntosh hit consecutive buckets to get within two points with three minutes to go in the game. McIntosh took a charge with :37 left and the Bears down two points, but turned the ball over on Cal's next possession and the Sun Devils knocked down three free throws to come away with the win.
 
Arizona State shot 8-for-10 from beyond the arc and was led by Jayln Brown's 21 points.
