Bears Win Championship In Claremont
Cal Goes Undefeated At West Coast Collegiate 7s
CLAREMONT – The California rugby team made a perfect run through the West Coast Collegiate 7s at Claremont McKenna College on Saturday, as two Golden Bear squads outscored their opponents by a combined mark of 274-38 to win the tournament championship.
Cal's top side began pool play with a 40-5 triumph over Arizona State before defeating San Diego State 43-7. The Bears then defeated UCLA 31-21 in the championship round.
Cal's reserve side enjoyed a dominant march through pool play, shutting out each of its first three opponents. The Bears beat San Diego's B-side 45-0, handled San Diego State's reserve group 38-0 and rolled past UCLA's No. 2 team 57-0. Cal wrapped up tournament play with a 20-5 victory over USD's top team, 20-5.

Solomon Williams the Bears' top side with four tries and six conversions while senior
Dougie Brown, junior
Rand Santos and junior
Max Threlkeld each added three tries. All of Threlkeld's tries came during Cal's victory over San Diego State while Brown had two against the Aztecs. Santos scored twice in the Bears' final game against UCLA.
"It was good to play and we are thankful to our opposition and the event organizers," Cal head coach Jack Clark said.
The Bears return to action Oct. 26-27 for the West Coast Collegiate 7s at Chula Vista.
