CHULA VISTA – California rugby went 4-0 in the group round of the WCC7s at Chula Vista to move onto the Cup Semifinal tomorrow afternoon in Chula Vista. The Golden Bears shutout San Diego State's second side, USC and UTEP and only allowed two unconverted tries to be scored against them by University of San Diego.  
 
Cal began the day with a 48-0 shutout of SDSU's second side. Sophomore Quinn Spieker led the Bears with four tries while junior Jack Openshaw had a pair.
 
The Bears then posted a dominant 60-0 shutout over USC. Junior Michál de Beer, senior Dougie Brown and freshman Oliver Teague each scored two apiece in the victory.
 
Cal rolled on in its third match of the day, claiming a 64-0 win over UTEP. Sophomore Jack Byszio led the side with four tries, while freshman Chris Biller contributed a pair.  
 
The Bears closed out the day with a 29-10 defeat over University of San Diego. The two teams traded scores in the first two minutes with Teague finding the tryzone first for the Bears. Junior Rand Santos and sophomore Jack Byszio each added scores before halftime to give Cal the lead. USD struck early in the second half with a try, but the Bears answered with back-to-back tries from Santos to clinch the win.
 
Cal will advance to the Cup Semifinal, facing Grand Canyon tomorrow at Noon. Final score and schedule updates will be provided via the Cal Varsity Rugby X/Twitter channel.
