California Post-Game Notes vs. Miami (10-05-2024)
 
  • Cal hosted ESPN's College GameDay and played its first-ever ACC home game on Saturday.
  • Cal's sellout crowd of 52,428 was Cal's first sellout at California Memorial Stadium in a non-Big Game since a Sept. 14, 2013, against Ohio State. Cal's most recent sellout of any type came in the 2022 Big Game against Stanford.
  • Cal's string of allowing 14 or less points ended at four. It had been Cal's longest such streak since also allowing 14 or less in each of the first four games of 1979.
  • Cal allowed points in the third quarter for the first time in five games this season but still outscored the Hurricanes, 14-8, in the third and is now outscoring its 2024 opponents in the third quarter, 41-8.
  • DB Nohl Wiliams returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown to give him his fourth career touchdown, all at Cal. Williams has now scored in three different ways. He previously had two fumble return touchdowns in 2023 in back-to-back games at Oregon (Nov. 4) and vs. Washington State (Nov. 11), as well as a 2024 kickoff return for a touchdown vs. UC Davis (Aug. 31). The interception was the 12th of Williams' career with the last seven at Cal, including five this season. Williams began Week 6 games tied for the nation's lead in interceptions.
  • Williams' interception was Cal's 11th in its first five games. Cal led the nation in interceptions heading into Week 6 games. In 2023, Cal tied for the nation's lead with 28 takeaways (12 interceptions).
  • QB Fernando Mendoza completed four passes of over 50 yards to four different receivers (66-yard TD to Jaydn Ott, 57-yard TD to Jack Endries; 56-yard pass to Jaivian Thomas; 51-yard pass to Trond Grizzell). Mendoza averaged 25.9 yards per completion. The completions of 61, 57 and 56 yards were the longest three completions of Mendoza's career.
  • ILB Cade Uluave finished with a career-high 15 tackles.
  • QB Chandler Rogers scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard run.
  • TE Corey Dyches ran his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 31 in a row
  • DB Miles Williams tied a career-high with 8 tackles.
  • DB Marcus Harris had a Cal career-high with 9 tackles.
