Cal Men’s Gymnastics Signs 3 For 2026

Davide Comparin, Liam DeWeese, Nathan Underhill Set To Join Bears

BERKELEY – California men's gymnastics has announced the signing of three all-arounders to next season's squad, with Davide Comparin, Liam DeWeese and Nathan Underhill officially set to join the 2026 Golden Bears lineup.

Comparin, the 2023 Men's Development Program all-around national champion from Irving, Texas, that head coach JT Okada describes as a "strong competitor with a great work ethic." is also a three-time Region 3 champion and Texas State champion (2022-24) as well as a national podium finisher on rings (2023 – third place) and parallel bars (2022 – third place). At the 2024 Elite Team Cup, he posted four event scores to help Region 3 to the title, including a fifth-place finish on pommel horse. Comparin's top all-around score of 79.500 came at the 2023 Men's Dev National Championships, where he claimed victory in the all-around. He currently competes for Texas Dreams Gymnastics and is interested in studying civil engineering at Cal.

DeWeese, a current teammate of Comparin's and an Okada-dubbed "powerhouse" from Murphy, Texas, is a four-time Men's Development Program National Championships qualifier (2019, 2021, 23-24) and a two-time national finalist (2023-24). In 2023, he earned the Region 3 vault title, later placing fourth in the event at Nationals. DeWeese also finished among the top three in the all-around at the 2021 Region 3 Championships, posting second-place scores on vault and high bar. DeWeese, who will pursue a degree in molecular and cell biology at Cal, is a member of the National Honor Society and HOSA-Future Health Professionals. He has also been a selected ambassador of the Plano East Health Sciences Academy and is a member of the Plano East Senior High School varsity choir.

Underhill, who hails from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and whom Okada expects to bring a "new level" of gymnastics to the freshman class, most recently competed in the junior division of the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, placing third on both floor and vault following a third-place outing on parallel bars at that year's Men's Development Program National Championships. The previous year, he placed second on vault to help him to a third-place all-around finish at the Men's Dev National Championships. In 2022, Underhil took the all-around and vault titles at the Western National Championships while also placing second on high bar. Underhill currently competes for Salto Gymnastics Center. He received an Academic Honorable Mention from his high school of Brookfield Academy in 2023-24 and will study electrical engineering and computer science at Cal.
