Future Golden Bear Claire Weinstein Helps Team USA Win Title In 4X200 Freestyle Relay

BUDAPEST, Hungary – California senior Jack Alexy continued his stellar showing at the 2024 World Aquatics 25m Swimming Championships on Thursday by winning the title in the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 45.38. It was Alexy's first individual gold medal at a senior-level international competition.

His individual world championship followed a gold-medal performance earlier in the meet in the 4x100m freestyle relay when he swam the leadoff leg in a time of 45.05. Alexy's split time set an American and championship record as he teamed with Luke Hobson, Kieran Smith and Chris Guiliano to post a world record time of 3:01.66 in Team USA's victory.

Claire Weinstein, who last month signed to join the Golden Bears' women's swimming & diving program for the 2025-26 academic year, helped the United States win the world championship in the 4x200 freestyle relay with a world-record setting time of 7:30.13. Weinstein swam the anchor leg in 1:50.31 to wrap up Team USA's victory.

Both Alexy and Weinstein were 2024 Summer Olympians in Paris.

The meet continues Friday beginning at 9 a.m. PT with streaming available on Peacock during the semifinal and final sessions.
