Cal Men’s Rowing Joins MPSF
Longest-Tenured Cal Program Begins New Chapter
The California men's rowing program will join the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) starting this year, as announced by the conference Thursday. Men's rowing will become the conference's 15th sport.
The Golden Bears will have familiar opponents as they join Oregon State, Stanford and Washington along with Gonzaga and Santa Clara, who will all embark on their first year in the conference along with UC San Diego.
"We are excited that our men's rowing program is joining the MPSF," Cal Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton said. "It will allow our student-athletes to continue to compete at the highest level, and I look forward to watching our team maintain its tradition of vying for national championships."
Cal men's rowing will join fellow Golden Bears squads in beach volleyball, men's gymnastics and men's and women's water polo that have already joined the conference.
"We are excited to have our conference championship under the MPSF banner and to potentially grow the regatta to include all of the West Coast programs," Cal head coach
Scott Frandsen said. "It will be a great showing of competitive depth for rowing on the West Coast!"
The inaugural MPSF Men's Rowing Championships will take place May 17-18, 2025, at Lake Natoma in Gold River, which is a familiar site as it has regularly hosted the Pac-12 Rowing Championships over the years.
