Strom Named MPSF Freshman Of The Week
Simi Valley Native Is Part Of Nation’s No. 5 Parallel Bars Squad
California men's gymnastics'
Brendan Strom has been named the MPSF Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
"Brendan is doing a great job in his first year of collegiate gymnastics," associate head coach
Bryan Del Castillo said. "He does clean routines and has proven to be a reliable competitor for our team. It's been exciting to see him have strong performances week after week."
Strom made his collegiate debut at the Stanford Open on Jan. 27 and has consistently improved since then, posting a personal best every week. This past weekend at Oklahoma, he helped the Golden Bears reach their highest score of the season (400.800) with a PR of 13.600 on floor as well as a 13.100 on parallel bars. The latter event group currently ranks No. 5 in the nation.
This is the first career weekly award for Strom and the second for Cal this season after freshman
Carter Kim earned the same honor Jan. 16.
Strom and the Bears will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 18, at noon PT for a virtual meet with William & Mary at Haas Pavilion.
