SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – Boston College scored five runs early and the California baseball team spent Sunday afternoon attempting to catch up. The Golden Bears had the tying run aboard several times but could not score the equalizer, falling to the Eagles 12-10 in the finale of the 2024 Desert Invitational.
Taking the loss for Cal (2-1) was starter Andre Galan. Galan struggled with his command and could not get out of the first inning. The Eagles (2-1) drew three walks in the inning and two base hits, the last from catcher Parker Landwehr that plated the third run of the inning.
Boston College scored two more in the second on a two-run home run by Kyle Wolff. Wolff finished the game going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and four driven in.
The Bears got back on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a massive home run by
Caleb Lomavita. The home run by Lomavita was his first of the season and 24th of his career.
The Eagles scored three more runs in the top of the sixth off a sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly and a double by Wolff.
Trailing 8-2, Cal scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Freshmen
Jarren Advincula and
PJ Moutzouridis both collected big hits. Advincula finished the day going 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Moutzouridis went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks. The bottom of the order was once again productive for the Bears. The 7-8-9 hitters combined to go 5-for-11.
