No. 17 Bears Bested By No. 6 Cardinal

Late Rally Secures Series For Stanford

BERKELEY – The No. 17 California softball team fell 5-2 to No. 6 Stanford in Game 2 of the Big Series on Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field.

Acacia Anders drove in a run for the Golden Bears (21-6, 1-4 Pac-12). Ava Gall had two hits for the Cardinal (21-5, 2-0 Pac-12).

Cal got on the board first in the opening frame, scoring on a perfect squeeze bunt from Anders to plate Tatum Anzaldo after she led off with a single. Stanford was able to answer right away, however, with a solo home run in the second inning.

Tied 1-1, the Bears retook the lead when Anders reached on a Cardinal fielding error and Lagi Quiroga came around to score in the third.

Holding a 2-1 lead, Randi Roelling kept the Cardinal lineup off balance through the middle innings, but an unearned run tied the game in the fourth. Stanford took its first lead in the fifth on a fielder's choice and a Kaitlyn Lim homer along with a Gall RBI in the seventh gave the Cardinal insurance.
