Bears Battle On Opening Night Of Pac-12 Championships
Cal Captures Third In the 800-Free Relay
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The swimmers took to the pool at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on Wednesday for the opening night of the Pac-12 Championships. No. 2 California, competing without five of its top swimmers, captured third in the 800-free relay and took fourth in the 200-medley relay.

Dare Rose and Bjorn Seeliger are competing at the TYR Pro Championship a long-course event in Westmont, Ill.
The meet began with the timed finals of the 200-medley relay. Cal finished in fourth just behind third-place finisher Stanford with a time of 1:24.63.
Kai Crews swam the opening leg with a time of 21.27. Forrest Fraser (23.78) swam the breaststroke leg, followed by
Roman Jones (20.25) and
Liam Bell (19.33). Arizona State took first in the event, setting an NCAA record with a time of 1:20.55.
In the 800-free relay, Cal battled once again with Stanford. The Cardinal touched the wall just five-hundredths of a second ahead of Cal. The Bears captured third with a time of 6:10.53. Robin Hansen swam the opening leg of the relay and finished his 200 split with a time of 1:31.95 – just behind ASU's Leon Marchand.
Keaton Jones swam the second leg (1:32.49) followed by
Dylan Hawk (1:34.10) and Trent Frandsen (1:31.99).
After five events, the Bears are in second as a team with a score of 175. Cal's divers had a tremendous performance last weekend finishing with a team score of 113 points.
The Pac-12 Championships will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the prelims of the 500 free, 200 individual medley and 50 free. Thursday's finals are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
