Men’s Rowing Heads South For California Challenge Cup
Team To Send Freshmen, 4V8+
The California men's rowing team will head south to compete in the California Challenge Cup on Saturday in Newport Beach. The Golden Bears will send their freshmen and 4V8+ to the event, which the freshmen boat swept last year. Each boat will race twice and the two boats with the fastest combined times will race for the California Challenge Cup trophy.
All results will be posted
here.
This will be the first taste of racing for many of the Golden Bears, so it will be a good gauge for the coaching staff as it evaluates lineups for the rest of the season.
"With lineups not even being close to finalized, we are using the weekend's racing to get strokes under pressure," Cal assistant coach
Brandon Shald said. "This particular race allows us to do three to four starting 1500m pieces against other teams. This is exactly what we need to be doing at this point in the season with the idea of continuing to build towards June 2."
Racing Schedule (all times PT)
8:15 a.m. – Cal F8+ vs. UCLA 2V8+
8:20 a.m. – Cal 4V8+ vs. UCLA 1V8+
9:45 a.m. – Cal F8+ vs. Orange Coast College 2V8+
9:50 a.m. – Cal 4V8+ vs. Orange Coast College 1V8+
