Bears Finish Day Two In Third
Cal Has Seven Swimmers Set Personal-Bests
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The second day of the Pac-12 Swimming Championship saw several career-best marks from Cal swimmers. The Golden Bears finished the night with seven personal-best times at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

The evening's events began with the finals of the 500-yard freestyle. Senior
Tyler Kopp finished sixth in the A-Final with a time of 4:15.31. In the prelims, he swam a personal-best time of 4:14.95. He entered the day with a season-best time of 4:20.64 and a personal-best time of 4:18.69 set at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. Kopp's time of 4:14.96 is an NCAA B qualifying mark.

Keaton Jones won the B-Final with a strong time of 4:13.73 – a career-best time in the event and fourth fastest time overall. Mack Meehan finished 16th with a time of 4:19.95, a career best.

Sean Swift took seventh in the A-Final of the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:43.74. He entered the day with a career-best time of 1:45.98 set at last year's Pac-12 Championships.

In the 50 free
Robin Hanson took 12th overall, followed closely by teammate
Kai Crews in 13th. Hanson finished with a time of 19.63, in the prelims he finished with a career-best mark of 19.49 – besting his time from the dual against Arizona State earlier this year. Crews finished with a time of 19.66. Like Hanson, Crews set a career-best mark in the prelims, finishing with a time of 19.57 – both of those times are NCAA B qualifying marks.

In the final event of the evening, Cal finished just off the podium in the 200 free relay. Cal's lineup of Hanson (19.67),
Roman Jones (18.86), Crews (19.15), and
Colby Hatton (19.16) finished with a time of 1:16.84 to finish in fourth. Jones' split of 18.86 was one of the fastest splits of the event.

After two days, the Golden Bears are in third place with a team score of 237 points. Arizona State is in the lead with 404 points, followed by Stanford with 304.5.

The Pac-12 Championships will resume on Friday at 11 a.m. with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
