Cal Lands 14 ACWPC All-Academic Honors

Third Straight Year With At Least 14 Selections

BERKELEY – The California men's water polo team placed 14 student athletes on the Fall 2023 ACWPC All-Academic Team.

This is the third straight year that at least 14 Golden Bears have earned the honor, one shy of the program's highest total since 2009.

Sophomores Albert Ponferrada and William Kelly landed in the "outstanding" category for finishing the fall semester with a cumulative GPA between 3.71 and 4.00. Seven Bears received "superior" recognition (3.41-3.70) and three others garnered "excellent" status (3.20-3.40).

Seniors Sam Untrecht and Jake Stone, juniors Blake Hoover, Brady Hoover, Itay Batito and Jordi Gascon and sophomores Nik Mirkovic, Piero Arienti and Ryder Hagan were all selected to the "superior" category. Seniors Nikolaos Papanikolaou and Ian Minsterman and sophomore Max LaGrange all earned "excellent" status.

In order to qualify, each student-athlete had to have an overall cumulative GPA higher than 3.2 and had to dress at least once during the season.
